For lighter presentation folders, these three materials are often available to choose from—but what exactly are the differences? At first glance, recycled paper might be associated with something made from waste paper, art paper with something similar to photo paper, and chromo sulfate board with something involving chemicals. And that’s not entirely wrong. In this article, the differences and specific characteristics will be outlined in a general way.

Matte Art Paper

This material is coated paper with a smooth yet matte surface. It is therefore particularly recommended when graphics or other visual elements are meant to stand out. Art paper is well known from many flyers and magazines. Depending on the product, finishing options include glossy UV coating, matte dispersion coating, or film lamination. You can hardly go wrong with art paper or art board, although it does not offer any განსაკუთრate tactile or visual features. The term “board” is used for a grammage of 150 g/m² to 600 g/m²; below that it is referred to as paper, and above that as cardboard.

Recycled Paper

Made from 100% waste paper and awarded the Blue Angel eco-label, this paper stands for a sustainable, slightly rough, and somewhat grayish material quality. While graphics may not appear as sharp as on art paper, recycled paper beautifully conveys the idea of sustainability. If not only design but also environmental impact matters, this is the right choice.

Chromo Sulfate Board

Compared to art paper and recycled paper, chromo sulfate board is significantly more stable and higher in quality. Coated on one side, with a high level of whiteness and excellent printability, this material clearly outshines the others. During production, the material is heated for several hours in a sodium hydroxide solution, which removes lignin from the cell walls. The result is a looser yet very stable and bright white material. If you are looking for something exceptional, this is the perfect choice.

Overview and Conclusion

If you are looking for certificate folders or hotel folders with a special feel and appearance, chromo sulfate board is the best option. If environmental friendliness is your priority, recycled paper is the way to go. And if you are aiming for a more budget-friendly solution, art paper is a solid choice. However, this does not mean that art paper looks inferior. Ultimately, design also plays a crucial role—an outstanding material cannot compensate for a dull design.
