<p>For multi-color motif printing, the CMYK color mode is used. CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key, which refers to black. During the printing process, these four colors are applied in sequence. Depending on how much of each color is used, the final printed image is created.</p>
<p>For this reason, print files should be prepared in the CMYK color space. This is essential for achieving predictable print results and reducing the risk of unwanted color deviations. Colors that look bright and vivid on a screen may appear different in print if the file has not been converted correctly.</p>
<p>Digital images are often created in RGB, which stands for Red, Green and Blue. RGB is designed for screens such as monitors, smartphones and tablets. It describes colors as they appear through light. Printing, however, works with physical inks or printing colors. <p>In many printing processes, several products are placed together on one large print sheet and cut to their final size after printing. Since even precise cutting machines can have slight tolerances, an additional margin is required around the final format. This extra area is called bleed.</p>
<p>Bleed ensures that backgrounds, colors or design elements that are intended to reach the edge continue slightly beyond the cutting line. This prevents unwanted white edges from appearing if the cut shifts minimally during production.</p>
<p>The required bleed depends on the product, the format and the production method. As a general rule, larger formats require more bleed than smaller ones. For smaller motif prints, the required bleed may be very small, while larger printed products usually need a more generous allowance.</p>
<p>In addition to bleed, a safety margin should always be considered. Text, logos and important design elements should not be placed too close to the cutting edge. Keeping a suitable distance from the edge reduces the risk of important content being cut off or appearing visually unbalanced after trimming.</p>
<h3>File Formats</h3>
<p>Only certain file formats are suitable for professional printing. Common formats include TIF, JPG and, most importantly, PDF. A print-ready PDF is usually the preferred option because it can contain all required elements such as images, graphics, text, fonts and lines in one complete file.</p>
<p>A properly exported PDF allows the print file to be processed efficiently without the need to open, adjust or rebuild the design afterwards. This reduces the risk of missing fonts, shifted elements or unexpected layout changes.</p>
<p>Professional layout and design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator or QuarkXPress are commonly used to create reliable print-ready PDF files. When exporting the file, it is important to use suitable print settings, embed fonts, include bleed where required and make sure that images are linked or embedded correctly.</p>
