Photos, graphics and layouts can be saved in many different file formats. Although there are many image formats available, only a few have become truly relevant in everyday design and production workflows. The most commonly used formats include JPG, TIFF, PNG and GIF.
JPG (JPEG)
JPG, also known as JPEG, was developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group and is probably the most widely used image format in the world. It is especially common for digital photos because it offers a very practical balance between image quality and file size.
