What Is a Pull Tab?

A pull tab is a small handle, usually made from ribbon, textile material, paper, or another flexible material, that is attached to the inner tray or insert of a sliding box. By pulling the tab, the inner part of the box can be removed smoothly from the outer sleeve.

This makes the opening process more intuitive and pleasant for the user. At the same time, a pull tab can add a refined visual detail to the overall packaging design.

Use in Sliding Boxes

Sliding boxes typically consist of two parts: an outer sleeve and an inner tray. The outer sleeve may be open on both sides or only on one side. In both versions, a pull tab can be a useful addition.

For sliding boxes that are open on both sides, the inner tray can often also be pushed out from the opposite side. However, with sliding boxes that are only open on one side, this is not possible. In this case, a pull tab is essential because it allows the tray to be pulled out easily and safely.
