Special formats are often used when standard sizes are not suitable for the product, sample, or content that needs to be presented or protected. This is especially relevant for high-quality packaging, presentation boxes, sample folders, and other custom-made print or packaging products.

In many cases, a special format is required when particularly large, long, wide, or unusually shaped items need to be packaged. Instead of following common DIN formats, the dimensions are adapted precisely to the contents. This ensures a better fit, a more professional presentation, and improved protection during handling, storage, or transport.

Producing a special format usually requires dedicated tools that are made specifically for the individual project. These tools are necessary to create the required dimensions accurately and consistently during production.

The tool costs are calculated separately and usually range between 250 and 400 euros, depending on the complexity and requirements of the project. Once the order has been completed, the tools are stored so they can be reused for possible follow-up orders.

This means that the tool costs for a specific special format usually only apply once. For repeat orders using the same format, the existing tools can often be used again, which can make future production more cost-effective.

Because tool costs can be significant, custom special formats are usually most economical from a certain order quantity onward. For very small production runs, the additional tool costs may have a stronger impact on the unit price.
