Varnishing

During the printing process, a transparent varnish can be applied to the material to protect the printed surface and enhance its visual appearance. Depending on the type of varnish used, the drying time may vary. Some varnishes dry quickly, while others require special drying systems to achieve a clean and durable finish.

Varnishing is available in different finishes, most commonly as gloss varnish or matte varnish. A gloss varnish creates a shiny, reflective surface that makes colors appear more vivid and intense. A matte varnish, on the other hand, produces a more subtle and elegant appearance with reduced reflections. Both options provide additional protection for the ink, colors and material surface.

Common types of varnish include water-based varnish and UV varnish. UV varnish is cured using ultraviolet light and is especially valued for its high-quality finish and strong visual effect. It can be applied across the entire surface or only to selected areas of a design.

Partial UV varnishing is particularly effective when certain design elements should be highlighted. Logos, patterns, images or text areas can be emphasized with a noticeable tactile and visual contrast. This makes the printed product feel more premium and helps guide the viewer’s attention to important details.

Varnishing is often used to make printed materials more durable, more refined and more engaging. When combined with other finishing techniques, it can create a sophisticated result that turns a simple printed product into a high-quality presentation piece.
